Some useful information is provided in the following paragraphs regarding your visit to Spine HMC for your upcoming surgery. Knowledge about your procedure.

A successful surgery depends on your knowledge about the whole process of your procedure. You should ask the doctor and staff about process of your surgery, medical history, your diet, anesthesia, medications legal and official arrangements (if applicable) etc.

  • Tell your doctor about if you have any medical condition or disease and any medication you are taking on regular basis due to this medical condition. You may be asked to stop or carry on these medication before the surgery is done.
  • Ask if you will be requiring blood during surgery, so that it could be arrange on time.
  • Confirm that appropriate medical tests have been carried out for you including blood tests, X-ray, ultrasound, ECG etc.
  • If you are a smoker, please ask for ways to abandon it, as smoking delays healing, and slows down the process of recovery.
  • If you are overweight ask from your doctor about care you need before and after the surgery.
  • Ask for any pre-surgery helpful exercises from your doctors.
  • If you are an employee and your employer require some documentation from the hospital, please ask for it in advance so that these may be prepared on time.

What to bring to the hospital on day of surgery

  • If you have any known allergies to some medicines, please bring a list of these with you.
  • Also please bring a list of any medicine you are taking on regular basis at home.
  • Your personal care items (denture case, hearing aid, contact lenses, eye glass case, tooth brush).
  • A pair of comfortable non-skidding slippers.
  • Personal entertaining gadgets like laptop, tablet, books etc.

Preparing for surgery

  • Take a bath or a shower the night before your operation.
  • Shave area of surgery if easy for you with clean and distilled shaver etc.
  • Do not eat anything after midnight the day of surgery.
  • Do not bring jewelry or cash to the hospital.


  • Please try to limit the visitor/caregiver to one or two people at the most. They will be seated in the waiting area during the procedure is performed.
  • Some responsible adult care taker must be accompanying you during your stay in the hospital.

After surgery at home

  • Hand held shower head
  • Shower seat
  • Hand Hygiene is mandatory to preventing spread of infections.
  • Frequently clean your hands particularly after touching objects, before and after eating, after coming from wash room.
